The exceptional high temperature corrosion resistance of Monofrax® E refractory makes it ideal for lining furnaces melting unusually corrosive glasses and slags where the coloration potential of its chromic oxide content is not of concern. Like Monofrax K-3 refractory, Monofrax E also consists primarily of two crystalline phases, the chromium Spinel and Chrome-Alumina Corundum solid solution and a minor silicate glassy phase, with a trace level of free metal. The chrome content of the spinel and corundum phases is much higher than that of Monofrax K-3 leading to its exceptional high temperature corrosion resistance.
